CHILD DEVELOPMENT

Technology has become an inseparable part of life, especially for kids. Even kids of five years of age, know how to operate a phone, play games, watch videos on Youtube.  Especially because of covid, where everything is online, kids are exposed to these gadgets at a very small age. Not only engaged, but they also become addicted to it.  Having online classes, not going to play, not interacting with other kids face-to-face has increased now.

The negative impact of electronic gadgets on kids:

●Obesity: Sitting at one place for a long time, nobody movement, eating at the same place and eating more of junk food and unhealthy food. Since there is no physical activity and food intake remains the same, there are no way children bur their calories. This leads to obesity in children. This in later life can be dangerous as it leads to severe health issues like diabetes, stroke.

●Addiction: Nowadays children do not want to go out and play with friends. Instead, they want to stay inside, play video games, be on their phone, or use the laptop. Parents also buy their kid's expensive electronic gadgets, which make them addicted to them. it feels like kids are relaxing themselves by using electronic gadgets but they are getting addicted to it. leaving kids at home with their gadgets and calling it their rest time is wrong. 

●Eye-sight: Playing on the computer all day, using the phone the whole day. Too much screen time damages kids' eyes. Kids at a very young age wear specs, mostly because of too much exposure to phones, computers, video games. They do not realize that continuously sitting in front of video games or computers or phones, causes strain on the eyes.

●Behavioural issues: It is found out that children who spend most of their time with their electronic gadgets are very aggressive. They cannot stay without their gadgets. Also, they want the updated version of it every time. Showing tantrums, getting violent or angry if parents do not buy a new version of the gadgets or if they take away their gadgets.

●Decrease interaction: Kids play on their own on phones and computers. They do not interact with people in person. They rather feel like interacting on social media or just stay at home with themselves. This reduces their social skills. They do not learn how to interact with real people. Virtually they can talk on messages but when it comes to face-to-face interaction, they cannot.

●Sleep-deprived: Kids forget that sleep is important. They use their sleep time by playing games on their phones or computer or tablets. They do not realize that rest is very important for their body. Because they do not get enough sleep, they become grumpy, get irritated on very small things. 

●Less exposure to nature: Gadgets are killing the development of the child. Instead of going out, playing with friends in the garden, having fresh air, seeing what the real world looks like, they spend time in front of screens. They are only interested in seeing the world inside the computer screen. 

●Physical fatigue and headache: Spending too much time on a device, staying in a single position for a long time, reduces blood circulation and puts stress on muscles and joints. This makes kids feel more tired without even moving. Other than this, too much exposure to screen light gives headache. 

●Pain in wrist, neck, and bad body posture: Sitting in front of a computer screen or phone, staying in one position for a long time, texting continuously, put a strain on your neck, shoulder and back. This also gives pain to your wrist. Holding it for a long time. back pains, pain in the shoulders and neck are commonly found in kids who spend too much time with their gadgets.

As parents:

    • ●Should set limit to time spend on electronic gadgets.
      ●Do not give in to the demands of the child, when they ask for new gadgets.
      ●Encourage them to play outside and interact with people in person.
      ●Spend time with their children, so that they bon well and spend less time on gadgets.
      ●Take electronic gadgets at the time of sleep and give only when necessary.
      ●Talk about electronic gadgets wisely so that you look involved and stay up-to-date with trends.
